Millionaire Blues
Tema incluido en el single Calling Elvis (1991)

LETRA
I woke up this morning, my jacuzzi wouldn’t work
Then the butler quit on me, man, can you believe it? Jerk!
Must have been my artistic temperament he couldn’t take
How come nobody wants to give me a break?

I’ve got the blues right down, mean and low
I’m as low as the heels of my alligator shoes
You should know how it feels to have these millionaire blues
Millionaire blues

Well, I found one of my bathrooms and I made it to the sink
I called one of my managers up and I poured myself a drink.
Oh, I swear I’d kill that little weasel if I could
I checked myself in the mirror – my hair was looking good, but

I had the blues right there, mean and mean and mean and low
As low as the heels on my alligator shoes
You should know how it feels to have these millionaire blues
Millionaire blues
Get down!

Well, so much for breakfast, I couldn’t face lunch
I thought I’d raise my spirits with a little champagne brunch.
I take the Lamborghini, the flunkie parks the car
Can you believe it, man, this other monkey won’t let me in the bar!

I said, I said, «Don’t you know who I am, man?» and he says, «No.»
No! Can you believe it?
I’m as low as the heels of these alligator shoes
You should know how it feels to have these millionaire blues
Millionaire blues, to have these millionaire blues,
Millionaire blues

Bad, bad!
That’s bad! Yeah
So hard,
It’s hard sometimes for a boy
Ah, I like that
That’s good
Get down!
You’re making a very big mistake, man
Oh yeah
You’ll never work in this town again!
All right

I Think I Love You Too Much

LETRA
I’m not alone sitting right there
How come I get the feeling you’d vanish into the air
I love you more than anybody else, babe
Can’t you tell I’m an easy touch.
Baby, baby, I think I love you too much

If I picked you up, oh you’d slip right away
If I locked you up, you’d find a way to make me pay.
You’re gonna hurt me more than anybody else babe
Can’t you tell I’m an easy touch
Baby, baby, I think I love you too much.

BRIDGE:
Guess I’m gonna get you what you want
Cuz I’m so into you
You don’t even give an inch to me baby
Though I’ve been giving you a mile or two

BRIDGE

Verse 1

Baby, baby, I think I love you too much (repeat)

Kingdom Come
Cara B del disco Heavy Fuel de 1991

LETRA
I tell you what!

They don’t mess with me, I’m a wild man, son
I got me my very own anti tank gun
I got a jack rabbit with it, guess he was a mean one
Yeah, I’ve always been a sportsman

Now, there wasn’t much left when I got to him
Them big old shells didn’t just go through him
Just lumps of fur and that was it
Guess you could say he sure took a hit, alright

Yeah, you want to see my fire power, see my collection
Cause that’s my thing, man, perfection
Now I’m talking power in the barrel of a gun
I’ll blow anything I want to Kingdom Come

Ba ba boom
Ba ba ba ba bomb
And I’ll blow anything I want
To Kingdom Come

Yeah, all you got to do is sqeeze on the trigger
And a little bitty human get a whole lot bigger
Cause there’s a time for talking and a time to shoot them down
And this mama-jama [?] don’t pussy foot around, alright

Yeah, let them laugh, let them say we’re strange
Me and my buddies on the rifle range
But you won’t be laughing when it hits the fan
You’re going to want to be a survivor, man

Yeah, you got to see my fire power, see my collection
Cause that’s my thing, man, perfection
Now, I’m talking power in the barrel of a gun
I’ll blow anything I want to Kingdom Come

Ba ba boom
Ba ba ba ba bomb
And I’ll blow anything I want
To Kingdom Come

Ba ba ba ba boom
I say we ought to drop the bomb
Yes, and I’ll blow anything I want
To Kingdom Come.

Eastbound Train

LETRA
It was New Cross Station, I was going on home
Saw you get your ticket, standing on your own
Here come the train about 02:44
I couldn’t get a smoker, you took another car

Yeah, the end of the line, we both had to change
And you’re standing right behind me
I’m a feeling kinda strange
We got to Mile End Road, my heart skipped a beat
Standing right behind me, I’m a shakin’ in my seat
3-4 minutes and the train comes through
I’m ridin’ on the Central, I’m a-lookin’ at you

Woman on the eastbound train
Sometimes I wanna see you again

Now I couldn’t read a paper, you couldn’t read a book
Kept on taking me another look
You got off the train, you never looked behind
I tried, but I can’t get you out of my mind

Woman on the eastbound train
Sometimes I wanna see you again

Well I got one more thing I wanna say before I go
If you get the message on the radio
You can write a letter, get in touch with me
Leave your number with the company, yeah

Woman on the eastbound train
Sometimes I wanna see you again

Real Girl
El 27 de julio de 1977, Dire Straits grabó las siguientes demos: «Wild West End», «Sultans of Swing», «Down to The Waterline», «Scared Loving» y «Water of Love».

LETRA
I want no suckers, head fuckers, bad luckers
Dream buyers, good flyers just lyers
Back biters, up fighters, brighters too
I want a real girl just like you, a real girl just like you

Don’t give me no actresses, ‘n distresses, ‘n strangenesses
Men owners, hard loaners
I just want nocar
Smooth operators just ain’t gonna do
I want a real girl, just like you, a real girl just like you

Don’t give me no pseuders, prooders, funny fooders
They’re just looking for takers, man rapers
don’t like selfers, on the shelfers
Don’t give a damn. Oh no
I want a real girl, just like you, a real girl just like you

Star gazers, chasers of passing phases
Three weekers, soul seekers, freakers
Speeders, bleeders
Feel only I wanna real girl, just like you, a real girl just like you

Tell her, tell her …
Only want to have a shelter when things go wrong.
Romancer, good dancer,
Ice breaker. ….. Love maker.
Don’t give me no suckers, head fuckers, bad luckers
dream buyers, half lives, just alives
Back biters, uptighters
Happens to…
I want a real girl , just like you. A real girl just like you

Tall Order Baby

LETRA
Well gimme a little loving in the morning
I want a little loving (…)
But you want to get your loving in the evening
When I want to get some loving in the day

I tell her that I’m working in the morning
I tell her that I gotta get my rest
She tells me she’s a-working on her loving
And she tells me that my loving is the best

Well it’s a tall order baby
And it’s a tall order now
Well it’s a tall order baby
But we gotta get our loving somehow

Well I don’t want to go to sleep on you baby
I don’t want to go to sleep on you now
But if I’m going to go to sleep on you baby
Well I’m gonna do it any how

Well don’t you turn your back on me darling
Don’t you know I’d like to stay up and play
But if I turn my back on you darling
You’re going to do it some other way

Well it’s a tall order baby
And it’s a tall order now
Well it’s a tall order baby
But we gotta get our loving somehow

It’s a tall order baby
Well it’s a tall order now
Well it’s a tall order baby
But we gotta get our loving somehow

Well I don’t want to go to sleep on you baby
I don’t want to go to sleep on you now
But if I’m going to go to sleep on you baby
Well I’m gonna do it any how

Well don’t you turn your back on me darling
Don’t you know I’d like to stay up and play
But if I turn my back on you darling
You’re going to do it some other way

Well it’s a tall order baby
And it’s a tall order now
Well it’s a tall order baby
But we gotta get our loving somehow

Well it’s a tall order baby
And it’s a tall order now
Well it’s a tall order baby
But we gotta get our loving somehow

Be Mine

LETRA
When the green, green spring
Is waiting for the sun to shine
It knows the sun will shine
In time… in time
How long until the dawn?
Is there any sign?
How long until your love will be mine?

The sweetest dream
I ever dreamed in all my life
Was one of having you
In time… in time
Are you ever gonna wake up
From the sleep you sleep?
How long until your love will be mine?

Be mine
Be mine
How long until your love will be mine?

I’ve heard it said
That a thousand years is like a day
Just a twinkle of an eye
In time… in time
Just a moment full of grace
My whole life would be
If you would say your love could be mine

Be mine
Be mine
How long until your love will be mine?

Be mine
Be mine
How long until your love will be mine?

Camerado
Tema que aparece en el sencillo «What it is» del 2000

LETRA
Camerado
See that cloud across the sun
There ain’t too many places left to run
There was a time when we’d go anywhere the wind would blow
Camerado

Camerado
They are fencing off the plains
I hate to hear the whistle of the train
The next thing you know they’ll want your pistol and your tobacco
Camerado

Gotta piece of 44 on fire in my chest
Out here on the mesa I will rest
If you could hand me down that whiskey from my saddle bag
Camerado

Now the light is dying in the sky
That ain’t gonna bother you or I
Seen enough of dying almost know all that there is to know
Camerado

Now you had best light out and ride
There’s pretty women on the other side
See in Salinas you’ll be free as air in Mexico

Let's See You
Este tema aparece en el sencillo «What It Is» del año 2000
Producida por Chuck Ainlay y Mark Knopfler
Escrita por Mark Knopfler

LETRA
Tonight we pushed the border just a little too far for comfort
Thought I’d get my order in
Seeing ??? sweet talking

You never had a way with words
So its something of a drag to hear you
Like a wind up bird
Telling all and sundry how come nothing is good
How you are misunderstood

You never had a lot upstairs
So it is something of a drag to see you
A legend in your own armchair
Telling all and sundry how things ought to be
What’s wrong with the industry

And then it all comes back to you
You wanna know what you should do

Shut up and deal, let’s see you do better
Shut up and deal, let’s see you get it on
Shut up and deal, and put it all together
Let’s see you, do it all

You say, «Well it’s alright for him»
I got more talent in my little finger
And what about that game she’s in?
How can she call herself a sinner or a saint?
She knows how to play the game

I know what it’s leading to
You want to know what you should do

Shut up and deal, let’s see you do better
Shut up and deal, let’s see you get it on
Shut up and deal, and put it all together
Let’s see you
Let’s see you

Let’s see you, do it all
All
Tonight we pushed the border just a little too far for comfort

The Long Highway

Producida por Chuck Ainlay y Mark Knopfler
Escrita por Mark Knopfler

LETRA
Heard a bell being toll
Before the break of day
I heard my name being called
Down that Long Highway

Now you don’t get long
You don’t get long
You don’t get long to stay

Kiss me once and I’ll be gone
Down that Long Highway

Spirits call from way beyond
Lord I may not disobey
Spare a thought for the vagabond
Down that Long Highway
Down that Long Highway
Down that Long Highway

Pyroman

I’d been a (doctor) but I stayed in this life
Only thing I think about is fuel for fire
Don’t want to ruining calling a name
when all you’re doing is setting it flames

I’m a pyroman
I’ll burn downtown
I’m a pyroman
Move me down/Close me down!

Sometimes I wonder who’ve
Don’t think I think about the (songs) I’ve learned
Give me in a witness, nothing to me

I’m a pyroman
I’ll burn downtown
I’m a pyroman
Close me down!

I (light) a dog and a dog, he’d do today
Walking down the street to (everybody’s) place
Oh I saw for all that’s worth
Oh It’s the greatest show on Earth

I’m a pyroman
I’ll burn downtown
I’m a pyroman
Close me down

Mister
Speak free to me
I come to take you mister
Across the sea
One thing mister
One thing I’ve got to learn
Who’s go out the window with cruedest concerns
About the secret plan
I’ll burn downtown
I’m a pyroman
Close me down

Sucker For Punishment

LETRA
I see you in the alley
I see you in the wall
Rolling back like a bowling ball
So I picked you up and threw you on the floor
And all you say to do is move
Your eye’s black, your nose is bent
Have you been in an accident?
Your God really sent you a punishment
That’s what you’re
You like it ready
You like it rough
You’re one of these people
You can never get enough
You’re all punched in
You’re all punched out
You’re the one they’re laughind about
You’re just an embarassment
You must know it’s time to go went
You’re gonna be a sucker for punishment
That’s what you’re
I wouldn’t call you a fancy free
I wouldn’t call you a frigid
It wouldn’t be so bad for me
If you didn’t pull me rigid
So only walk in the name of love
Straight into my box you’d love
You ring me up and say Hi!
You bring me down and I say Goodbye!
Now I’m not to inteligent
But it’s you that I resent
Because you’re just a sucker for punishment
That’s what you are

Waltzing Mathilda

LETRA
Once a jolly swagman camp’d by a billabong,
Under the shade of a coolibah tree,
And he sang as he watch’d and waited till his billy boiled,
«Who’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me?»
Chorus:
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
You’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me,
And he sang as he watch’d and waited till his billy boiled,
You ‘ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me.
Down came a jumbuck to drink at that billabong,
Up jump’d the swagman and grabbed him with glee.
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag,
«You’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me.»
Chorus:
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
You’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me,
And he sang as he shoved that jumbuck in his tucker bag,
You’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me.
Up came the squatter mounted on his thoroughbred,
Down came the troopers, one, two, three,
«Whose that jolly jumbuck you’ve got in your tucker bag?
You’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me.»
Chorus:
Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
You’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me,
Whose that jolly jumbuck you’ve got in your tucker bag?
You’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me.
Up jump’d the swagman, sprang into the billabong,
«You’ll never catch me alive» said he.
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong
«You’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me.»
Chorus: Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda,
You’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me,
And his ghost may be heard as you pass by that billabong,
You’ll come a’ waltzing Matilda with me.

Small Potatoes

LETRA
You can hire and fire, wheel and deal
Run your streets with a fist of steel
But you’re small potatoes
Strictly nickel and dime, nickel and dime
Small potatoes, small time

You can raise an army on a town
Be the rent collector, come around
Yeah, but you’re small potatoes
Strictly nickel and dime, nickel and dime
Small potatoes, small time

If you take your leave of reality
You have to believe in your own publicity
But you get yourself and agent
Hire the Albert Hall
Make like Humpty dumpty and look down on it all
But you’re small potatoes
Strictly nickel and dime, nickel and dime
Small potatoes, small time

Out on the town for your charities
Hanging in around with the VIPS
They say the duke of York took his men
Marched them up a hill of beans and down again
He was small potatoes
Strictly nickel and dime, nickel and dime
Small potatoes, small potatoes, small potatoes, small time

What Have I Got To Do

LETRA
Now if I was to sing for you
A song you never heard
And give it to you my finest treasure
Would you look at what I bring to you
Turn without a word
Leave me at your gate
Keep me waiting at your pleasure
What have I
What have I got
What have I got to do
To win your love
Maybe never
What have I
What have I got
What have I got to do
To win your love
Forever

Well I’ll beat out a lion heart tattoo
I’ll bring you pipes and drums
I’ll bring you books of burnished leather
I’ll set to sea in ships for you
Brave a thousand runs
Ride a hurricane
Laugh at any stormy weather

What have I
What have I got
What have I got to do
To win your love
Maybe never
What have I
What have I got
What have I got to do
To win your love
Forever

You set no store by gems and gold
You scorn my weather chart
You are not concerned with men’s advances
I want you more a hundred-fold
When you lift my heart
I’ll burn no other flame
Bear no one else’s lances

What have I
What have I got
What have I got to do
To win your love
Maybe never
What have I
What have I got
What have I got to do
To win your love
Forever
To win your love
Forever

Summer of Love
Tema que aparece en el sencillo «Boom, like that» del 2004.

LETRA
Daddy says I’ll never get the roadster
What does he know
I just can’t make it here in Squares Ville
Daddy-O
Pretty on the inside and the out
She’s the ride I’m wild about
The only one I’m dreaming of
Summer of love

Daddy says I’ll never get the roadster
What does he know
We drive to where the sky is wide
And the moon is low
When I shut her down the night feels cool
I tell her she’s beautiful
A million stars all swarm above
Summer of love
Whoa, summer of love

Summer days hot and dry
Hot as firecrackers on the Fourth of July
Summer nights passing slow
Gas her up Daddy I’m ready to go

Repeat 2nd verse
